You gotta have faith

What happens when you don’t believe in yourself? You might feel completely helpless and unable to make a move. It can feel daunting and cause decision paralysis. No amount of self help books or podcasts can help you when you’re in freeze mode. I remember being obsessed with my inability to make a decision when I was 27 (solar return much?) and devouring books about habits, decision making, and anything that I thought could lift the fog I found myself under.

But the thing is, having doubt is not something you can get over by looking to external tools or validation from others. You need to tap back into what you really want. One of the most freeing realizations you can have is that there is no way to know what lies ahead. So instead of obsessing over making the right decision, worry about making your decision the right one (SO to Dr. Ellen Langer for this one). And I would venture to guess that if you can’t see a clear path ahead, it’s because you’re inventing it. And that’s bad ass AF.

Ok but, if you don’t believe in yourself and feel paralyzed the idea that there is no path is terrifying. You may need to surrender. You may need to decide to believe in something bigger than you. You may need to borrow some faith until you have your own self belief. As you show up for yourself on the daily, you will create the self trust you need to know you can handle whatever comes next. But until then, or when you’re in a valley, remember although you can’t see the path ahead, there is a plan and everything is happening FOR you. Not to you.
